Juat got done using a Caswell “Plug &Plate” “CopyChrome” nickel alloy plating kit to make the grill and bumpers on the pedal car project more resilient and better looking.
Some pieces may need to be re-treated , and none of it has been polished out yet, but I’ve got a half bottle of electrolyte left, so not a problem.
It was a giant pain to get the metal prepped, because the primer on the body was thick and tough, and then I had to try to get all remnants of any oils or contaminants off the surface.
When I'm done, I will clear coat the plating to help preserve it, then mask it in the reverse of that to re-prime where paint is missing and make the rear light chrome look like thin trim strips.

That’s shaping up nicely.

Yep. The dirty part (sanding, wire brushing, etc) being done and the time critical thing (containing/preventing flash rust) being done, I can come back and lay steel wool to discolored spots and replate at my leisure. I am having a beer.

Here’s what it looked like halfway through the grill.

I also took the glazing compound up to the shop for when I get finished and need to fill surface imperfections, and got the battery for the lights and horn filled and charged. Pretty productive.
